My Heavenly Father Loves Me

I had this song on the schedule to work on with the Primary kids for November/Thanksgiving, and once I saw that they will be singing it next year for the program, I figured now was as good a time as ever to put a flip chart together.

You can access the link here.

My Heavenly Father Loves Me

Note:  I intentionally changed the wording in the song from "...or walk by our lilac tree..." to "...or walk by a lilac tree..." because the majority of children in my ward do not have a lilac tree in their yard.  We have several in common areas of a neighborhood in our ward, and I figured that the intent of the words was to think about the amazing beauty and scent of lilacs.  I realize that some may want the exact words from the Children's Songbook...)

I also just had to share what an amazing job the children in my ward did on the Primary program last Sunday.  It couldn't have gone better.  They are awesome.  I have to admit that I feel a little awkward when members tell me what a great job I did... I have to give the credit to the kids. I just waved my arms around to have them stand up, sing, and sit down.  They (and our cute Primary counselor who put it all together) did the rest.

We performed all 4 verses to I Feel My Savior's Love -- I asked for volunteers for solos or small groups to sing the verses and had an overwhelming response.  I plan to incorporate those kinds of opportunities more in the future.  I had the Primary sing the chorus to each verse as the soloists/small groups switched out in front of the microphone.  It worked out amazingly well.

  1. I love the pictures you found for the flipchart for My Heavenly Father Loves Me! I really want to use the chart you made. However--I hate to point it out but there is an error in the wording. I looked at the songbook just to make sure my memory wasn't playing tricks on me. It should be "or walk by our lilac tree" not "or walk by a lilac tree".

Thanks for the great ideas on your blog!

    1. It was an intentional error. I know that many of children in my ward do not have lilac trees ;-) I should have mentioned it, but didn't think about it until your comment. Hopefully it will still be useful!

  2. I love that you changed that one word. I'm prepping to sing this in February with the kids and thankfully already have a flipchart made for it because I love the song so we did it last year for fun. I always felt weird singing "our lilac tree" because I think it confused the kids. I don't typically change the words from the Songbook but I think I will, as you did, this time.

  3. I'm new to this. Tell me how you make your flip charts so they turn easily.

    1. Janeil - You can see how I made my flip charts here: http://primarilysinging.blogspot.com/2011/08/best-binding-ever.html. You can also access it by going to the "Visual Aid" link at the top of the blog, then the "Best Binding Ever" link. I have always laminated the flip charts, and occasionally had problems with pages wanting to "stick" - but only really worried if I was using the flip chart to help the kids sing in Sacrament Meeting. I would just add a small post-it "tab" to the page to aid in flipping the pages :-) Hope that helps!

  4. The song used to say "Walk by a lilac tree" in the old orange primary songbook. We sing it that way as well, but it is because it is so ingrained in my head from my days in primary. There are a few other songs like that as well.
